Our Values and Behaviour

Improving access to education and training opportunities for people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness is an important way to facilitate participation in the community, which in turn may help them to regain control over their lives and end the vicious cycle of poverty.

Making Donations

Why Donate?

Donations have enabled us to provide some significantly life-changing programs, such as our innovative Education and Employment Program aimed at ‘Educating Women out of Homelessness’. This particular program is 100% dependent on donations.

Financial and in-kind donations are essential to our work. They add much needed value to the type and range of programs, and other supports that the organisation can offer to help women to change their lives.

Each year Catherine House receives 65% of its funding from government with the remaining 35% coming from one off grants and financial donations received from the community. The organisation therefore very much relies on financial donations to continue its work.

Catherine House is very grateful for all the support it receives from individuals, government, charitable and service organisations and its corporate partners. All financial and in-kind donations, large and small, are always promptly acknowledged. All donations to Catherine House Inc. of $2 and above are tax deductible.

There are many ways you and/or your company can donate to the work of Catherine House including:

General Financial Donations

General financial donations enable the organisation to conduct its Research programs, improve the buildings, provide new furnishing and initiate new program areas.  You can be assured that your donation will directly assist women who use our service.

Goods in Kind

Goods in-kind assist the organisation to make women’s lives so much brighter. It is wonderful for clients to receive gifts at Christmas, as well as throughout the year on their birthday. At the same time, when a woman comes into our Emergency Program she often arrives with very few personal items. We supply her with basic items including toiletries, pyjamas, towelling scuffs, underwear etc. Donations of these and other items are always gratefully received.

If you would like more information on how you can donate goods in-kind we invite you to complete the enquiry form.

Sagarmatha Fund

The Sagarmatha 'Educating Women out of Homelessness' Fund is designed to build on and extend the opportunity that is offered to clients, to find employment through

  • access to on-site educational courses at Sagarmatha
  • participation in external TAFE/WEA courses, specific job training
  • on-site job preparation courses/support
  • pre-entry study courses at university
  • practical assistance, e.g. working wardrobe, materials.

University Scholarship

Donate Now

Dame Roma Mitchell was the first Patron of Catherine House Inc. and as a result became very interested in the work of the organisation, and the whole issue of women’s homelessness. When she died she left the organisation a small bequest in her will, which has allowed us to make some funds available to assist clients attending university.

Clients will be able to apply for a small grant to cover expenses associated with attending university that cannot access from any other source. If you would like to support women in this way please complete our on-line donation form, identifying the Scholarship Fund as your area of interest.

If you would like more information on how you can be part of this worthwhile endeavour we invite you to contact the Catherine House Director on (08) 8232 2282.

Workplace Giving

How does workplace giving work?

Employees: you can support Catherine House Inc through your company’s workplace giving program, provided Catherine House Inc. is on their list of organisations to support. If we are not on the list, you can ask to nominate Catherine House Inc as your chosen charity.

Employers: Workplace giving can be easily managed through your normal payroll system. There are no tax forms to complete and all employees on the Pay As You Earn tax system may join the program.

Further information can be found on the Australian Taxation Office website at www.ato.gov.au/content/downloads/n9185-06-04.pdf.

If you want to set up a workplace giving program advice on the best way to establish one is also found on this website.

Pre-tax giving: In most cases these contributions will be made from pre-tax salary, allowing employees to receive the tax benefit immediately. This means that Catherine House Inc. does not need to issue individual receipts, which represents a saving in time and money for both employers and Catherine House Inc which ensures more of your money goes directly to supporting our work.
