At Catherine House we seek to offer a woman the opportunity to transform her life, through the various supports and programs that we provide. Our underlying philosophy is that we always see a client as a person first, and not the sum of all the problems that has brought her to homelessness.
We have a holistic approach to the work that we do. We not only deal with the immediate problems and issues that have led a client to homelessness, we also look with her at how she can create a more sustainable, satisfying future.
Solving women’s homelessness, through improved self-sufficiency, is our key purpose. All our programs and services are designed to be fully integrative. At the same time they are actively linked into the broader services, and support systems, that are available in the wider community. Sagarmatha, our Vocational, Education and Employment Centre, is a key strategy designed to educate women out of homelessness, through access to recreational education, referral to further study/job training leading to regular employment.
Catherine House responds to the needs of clients and actively seeks to introduce new programs/services that are relevant to ending the distress of homeless women.
The organisation believes that it has a responsibility to Public Education to speak about the real reasons why women become homeless. Public speaking assists people in the community to become better informed, and therefore helps to address the negative myths and stereotypes that can exist.
Catherine House has built up a solid, much valued, corporate support base in recent years. As the work of the organisation has become better known corporate bodies have become keenly interested in our work, and have been most generous in their support.
